30.Social Media production and design
In addition to the trailer, I created a film poster as part of my promotion package. The purpose of the poster was to visually represent the key themes of the film while also attracting and engaging my target audience. A poster is often the first thing an audience sees when discovering a film, so it needed to be eye-catching, memorable, and reflective of the story. I focused on creating a design that would immediately communicate the genre and tone, while also creating a sense of mystery to encourage viewers to watch the trailer.
I used a dark colour scheme, dominated by deep blues and blacks, to reflect the conventions of the thriller genre. These colours help to create a tense and unsettling atmosphere, suggesting danger, secrecy, and the unknown. The low-key lighting on the character’s face adds to this effect, as parts of the image are obscured by shadow, hinting that not everything is as it seems. This visual approach mirrors the mood of the trailer, ensuring consistency across my promotional materials.
The typography was another important element of the design. I used bold, distorted lettering for the title Static, incorporating a glitch effect to reflect themes of technology, interference, and disrupted communication. This stylistic choice not only makes the title visually striking but also reinforces the narrative focus on digital messages and hidden information. The tagline, “Some messages aren’t meant to be seen,” adds further intrigue and encourages the audience to think about the film’s storyline without revealing too much.
The layout of the poster was carefully planned to follow typical film poster conventions. The main image is centred to immediately draw the viewer’s attention, while the title is placed prominently to ensure it is easily readable. The tagline is positioned at the top to act as an initial hook, and the additional information, such as “Coming Soon” and the production credit, is placed at the bottom to maintain a clear visual hierarchy. This structured layout helps guide the audience’s eye across the poster in a logical way.
Overall, the poster complements the trailer and strengthens the overall branding of the film. By maintaining consistent colours, themes, and visual style, it creates a cohesive promotional campaign. This makes the film feel more professional and realistic, while also effectively targeting an audience who are interested in modern, technology-based thrillers.
