12. Analysing Existing Film Trailers for Inspiration

To help develop my own trailer, I analysed existing film trailers from the same genre as my film. This allowed me to understand how professional trailers structure their narratives and use editing techniques to engage audiences.

Most trailers I studied followed a three-act structure: introduction of characters and setting, disruption or conflict, and a fast-paced montage at the end.

Sound was also extremely important, with trailers often starting quietly before building to louder music and dramatic sound effects.

Typography and on-screen text were used to highlight key information such as release dates, production companies and taglines. I plan to use similar techniques in my own trailer to ensure it meets audience expectations and follows genre conventions.
